"Montessori method gives students a better chance to excel: US study"
Source: The West Australian

"The Montessori system of teaching, which has nurtured such innovators as Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, produces better reading, maths and social skills in the primary school grades, a Science magazine study has found.

The study found that five-year olds taught in Milwaukee public schools using Montessori methods scored higher in tests and performed better on several social and behavioural measures, lead author Angeline Lillard, of the University of Virginia, said.  Students aged 12 scored higher in social and behavioural skills and were about average in academic tests.

The Montessori method lets students choose and lead their own project-centred work while collaborating with others in multi-age settings."
